I drew a picture of a room cluttered with strange things. In the corner of the picture was a fish, who was living in an old CRT TV filled with water. This got me interested in drawing fish.
My Family moves houses in a whirlwind three month ordeal. I that time, I decided to take up making my first comic. It was a Little Mermaid style story, with a fish falling in love with a human girl, and trading something valuable for the ability to walk on land. I named the comic Sparrowfish
This comic was the first major project I'd ever finished. At the time, I felt like I had proven I was capable of being an artist.
I got a tattoo of a beta fish, partially as a memento of my first project.
Newly in college, I decided I wanted to make a website, but I'm cheap and stubborn. I found out that it's much cheaper to create websites if you write the HTML yourself. So I set out to learn how. I'd expected it to be largely a place to host my comic projects, so I named it Sparrowfish.
I took a business communications class that required us to make websites. I got really nervous about Sparrowfish seeming professional enough, but I was also bummed about the idea of giving up the funky neon style I was developing. I tried to find a compromise, but this resulted in a site that was too messy for employers to see, but not cool enough for me to be proud of.
